Japan Display, Taiwan's Innolux to make next-gen. panels for cars NHK

Japan Display says it is working with a Taiwanese manufacturer to produce its next-generation OLED panels for automobiles.

Struggling JDI is aiming to rebuild its business by expanding the use of its own technologies.

The company signed a strategic alliance agreement with LCD-panel maker Innolux on Tuesday.

JDI aims to begin mass production of the low-power consumption panels for vehicles at its factory near Tokyo in 2027 in cooperation with an Innolux subsidiary.

Japan Display Chairman and CEO Scott Callon said, "The challenge for us is developing our own technology, which is the world's first and best, to differentiate it from our rivals."

Japan Display has posted net losses for 10 consecutive years to fiscal 2023 that ended in March. That's largely due to price competition from Chinese rivals and a decline in sales of smartphone screens.
