The White House has said US President Donald Trump will hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. It will be their second face-to-face meeting since Trump started his second term. The White House made the revelation on Sunday. The two leaders last met in person in February. The talks will take place after the Trump administration announced last week its so-called reciprocal tariffs, which include a 17-percent levy on imports from Israel. Media reports say Netanyahu plans to ask Trump to retract the measure. Trump told reporters, "We are going to talk about trade, and we're going to talk about the obvious subject." Monday marks a year and a half since the current conflict in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Islamic group Hamas began. Trump may apparently be hoping to make a breakthrough in the situation there at the talks, as a ceasefire agreed between the two warring sides is on the verge of breaking down. The White House says Trump and Netanyahu are slated to hold a joint news conference after their meeting. Observers are waiting to hear Trump's remarks. In February, he sent shockwaves by abruptly suggesting that the United States would take over Gaza and resettle its residents elsewhere.
