Japan&#039;s main ruling Liberal Democratic Party has released the results of its fact-finding interviews with lawmakers involved in the political fund scandal.
                
The executive members of the LDP interviewed lawmakers, including 82 who belonged to the Abe and Nikai factions as well as three branch chiefs who are slated to run in the next general election.
                
The report shows all offices of the 85 interviewees said they had received kickbacks or retained excesses from fund raiser ticket sales.
                
The factions have been found to provide unreported funds to their members in two ways.
                
They refunded the money in kickbacks, or only received the amount of quota sales allowing lawmakers to retain excesses. In some cases, both methods were used.
                
The LDP&#039;s Abe and Nikai factions refunded the 85 lawmakers and branch chiefs nearly 580 million yen, or about 3.86 million dollars, in kickbacks or excesses over five years through 2022.
                
Of the 85, 32 people said they knew about them, and 11 of them said they knew the kickbacks or excesses were unreported in their political fund reports.
                
They said they had been told by their faction offices there was no need to report the money and they believed that.
                
Asked whether they used the kickbacks or excesses, 53 of the interviewees replied they did, while 31 said they did not.
                
The report says it is uncertain when the Abe faction began to give kickbacks or excesses to its members, but the practice highly likely began more than 10 years ago. It says it may even go back more than 20 years ago.
                
The report reveals some lawmakers who belonged to the Abe faction said that senior members of the faction should take responsibility.
                
The report quotes lawyers who compiled the report as saying that relevant laws should be amended to prevent recurrences.
