As Ukrainian forces step up their counterattacks in the regions seized by Russian forces, pro-Russian armed groups are preparing for intensive fighting in southern Ukraine.
                
In a social media post on Saturday, a senior member of a pro-Russian armed group controlling the southern region of Kherson urged people to leave the region and evacuate to Russia since heavy fighting is expected there.
                
The Ukrainian government says its forces had liberated 75 communities in the region by last Thursday.
                
In a speech on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiyy said his country will recover its territorial integrity, suggesting the start of intensive fighting in southern Ukraine.
The Defense Ministry of Belarus, an ally of Russia, announced on Saturday that a first group of Russian troops had arrived in Belarus to form a joint unit with Belarusian soldiers.
                
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to ask his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko to provide further military cooperation as Russian forces are having difficulties fending off recent Ukrainian counterattacks.
                
US think-tank the Institute for the Study of War on Friday said  &quot; Ukrainian and Western officials continue to reiterate that they have observed no indicators of preparations for a Belarusian invasion of Ukraine.&quot;
                
The ISW says, &quot;Putin is more likely weaponizing concerns over Belarusian involvement in the war to pin Ukrainian troops against the northern Ukraine-Belarus border.&quot;
