Police in southern China say 35 people were killed and 43 others injured in a car ramming incident that occurred in Guangdong Province on Monday night. A 62-year-old man drove a car into a crowd of people at a sports facility in the city of Zhuhai, hitting them violently one after another. The driver was detained on the spot. Police say the man tried to kill himself at the scene, and is now receiving treatment. Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday urged all-out efforts to treat the injured. He also gave instructions to strictly punish the perpetrator in accordance with the law and ensure the safety of people's lives as well as social stability. The incident occurred amid extensive news coverage by the state-run television of an airshow, which is set to open in Zhuhai on Tuesday. The event is one of the largest airshows in China.
