Japan's Foreign Ministry says it plans to continue to methodically explain the government's plan to release treated and diluted water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant to the global community.

The ministry says it will explain the plan based on scientific evidence, as it expects more protests from China.

It says it will swiftly disclose the results of monitoring tests and focus on communicating data on social media.

The ministry has been posting data about safety on X, previously known as Twitter, in 10 languages, including English, Chinese, Korean and Spanish.

An analysis in English posted on YouTube has been viewed more than 5 million times.

The ministry is also working to address misinformation. In June, it responded immediately when a South Korean online media outlet said that Japan's government had made a political donation to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

It said in a statement that the report was "absolutely untrue" and had "no basis."

The ministry says its position is that it will not disregard incorrect data and will work to spread accurate information to eradicate untruths.

It says if it discovers information that is not based on facts, it will ask that the data be deleted and will protest the release of the information.

Water used to cool molten fuel at the Fukushima Daiichi plant gets mixed with rain and groundwater. The accumulated water is treated to remove most radioactive substances, but still contains tritium.

The government plans to dilute the treated water to reduce the tritium levels to about one-seventh of the World Health Organization's guidelines for drinking water, before it is released into the sea.
