A delegation of high-ranking officials from the Taliban interim government in Afghanistan has reportedly left for Japan.
                
The Taliban&#039;s deputy minister of economy, Latif Nazari, posted on social media on Saturday that the delegation was heading for Japan. An interim government official said the delegates were expected to arrive in Japan as early as Sunday.
                
It is believed this will be the first visit to Japan by senior interim government officials since the Taliban retook power in 2021.
                
Diplomatic sources in Afghanistan said the delegation was invited by the Nippon Foundation, and the delegates reportedly plan to exchange opinions with Japanese officials.
                
Nazari said on social media that the Taliban seek &quot;dignified engagement&quot; with the world to become a strong and active member of the international community.
                
No countries have recognized the Taliban as a legitimate government as the group has been criticized for restricting female rights to education and employment.
                
Afghanistan&#039;s economy continues to face a harsh situation due to sanctions imposed by Western nations. The interim government apparently hopes to gain more aid and investment from Japan through the visit.
