Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned Russian attacks on his country's energy-related infrastructure as "energy terror." Zelenskyy addressed an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council via video link on Wednesday. The president said Ukraine was hit by almost 70 missiles on Wednesday alone, affecting hospitals, schools, transport, and residential areas. He said, "When the temperature is below zero outside, and tens of millions of people are left without electricity, heat and water as a result of Russian missiles hitting energy facilities, this is an obvious crime against humanity." Zelenskyy urged the Security Council to take concrete action to stop Russia. Western nations also criticized Russia. US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Russia is "clearly weaponizing winter to inflict immense suffering on the Ukrainian people." She accused Moscow of trying to freeze the country into submission. Norway's UN ambassador, Mona Juul, said Russia's aim "seems to be to terrorize the population." Russia's UN ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia, said the damage to Ukraine's infrastructure was caused by missiles fired by the country's air defense systems.
