Racist gunman kills three Black people in Florida NHK

Three people were killed in a shooting at a discount store in Jacksonville in the US state of Florida. Authorities are investigating it as a hate crime.

The victims, two men and a woman, were Black and the gunman, a white male, killed himself after the attack.

A Jacksonville sheriff told reporters that the shooting was racially motivated and the gunman in his 20s left manifestos which showed his hatred for Black people.

Jacksonville mayor Donna Deegan said that many citizens are saddened and shaken and that all that can be done to stop this kind of hate must be done.

The presumably racially motivated crime was committed on the day when a large crowd of people gathered in Washington to call for an end to racial discrimination.

This Monday will mark 60 years since civil rights activist Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. made his famous "I have a Dream" speech in 1963.
