US Justice Department officials will reportedly seek a court order forcing Google to sell off its Chrome internet browser. Bloomberg is quoting multiple sources who say the department will ask a judge to force the tech giant to make the sale. The DOJ filed a lawsuit in 2020 that accused Google of violating the antitrust law by monopolizing online searches and advertising. In August a federal court ruled in the department's favor. The Bloomberg report also says the DOJ is demanding Google provide data from its search service to other firms. Chrome is the main pillar of Google's advertising business. A Google executive reportedly said the government's move would harm consumers, developers and American technological leadership. The Justice Department is expected to push for changes that will force IT giants to change their business models.
