The head of Seoul's Yongsan Ward has been arrested in connection with the deadly Halloween crowd crush. South Korean media reported that police arrested Park Hee-young on Monday on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in death and injury for allegedly failing to take appropriate steps in anticipation of Halloween crowds. The October 29 incident in the Itaewon district of Yongsan Ward left 158 people dead. Park's arrest came after a court reportedly concluded that she might destroy evidence. South Korean media say investigators found that Park bought a new smartphone after the accident and erased data on her old device. A Yongsan official in charge of safety measures in the area was also arrested. The case has also seen four senior police officials arrested, including a former chief of the Yongsan Police Station.
