Gadget Launch
iReader is a manufacturer of e-readers that is primarily active in China, but at least two new products are now also available in the West. As is often the case, specialized retailer Good E Reader is the seller. Although based in Vancouver, Canada, Good E Reader also ships from Chicago, IL, USA, Hong Kong, China or Tokyo, Japan. International buyers should thus take into account any possible shipping and import fees. Overall, the range of e-readers is already quite wide and neither the iReader Ocean3 Turbo nor the iReader Light 3 are reinventing the e-reader.
The Ocean3 Turbo is said to feature an improved panel, namely a seven-inch E Ink Carta 1200 panel that reportedly has 20 percent better response times compared to previous generations and also benefits from increased contrast. The pixel density is 300 PPI. According to the manufacturer, the model is equipped with a thinner cover made of tempered glass, which is supposed to ensure a clearer display without sacrificing on rigidity.
Brightness can be adjusted in 28 levels and physical buttons are installed for digital page turning. A dedicated processor with four computing cores and 4 GB of RAM promise strong performance. The internal storage measures 64 GB. The iReader Ocean3 Turbo from Good E Reader comes at a price of just under US$340.
The iReader Light 3, on the other hand, only comes with a 6-inch E Ink screen with 212 PPI, although a front light is also present. However, only one computing chip with two processor cores is used. This device is on offer for a price of just under US$210.
A possible alternative: The Kindle Paperwhite from Amazon for just under $170.
