NHK has learned that the ruling Liberal Democratic Party&#039;s Nikai faction and some offices of member lawmakers failed to report extra revenues of about 1.4 million dollars in the five years through 2022.
                
In a political fundraising scandal that came to light last year, some LDP factions are said to have paid kickbacks to the offices of member lawmakers who sold tickets for fundraising parties in excess of their sales quotas.
                
In addition, the offices of some lawmakers are suspected of keeping excess revenues after selling the tickets, without handing them over to their faction.
                
Tokyo district prosecutors have been investigating the alleged violation of the Political Funds Control Law.
                
They have questioned former secretary-general of the LDP, Nikai Toshihiro, who heads the Nikai faction, on a voluntary basis. His office is believed to be among those that failed to turn over the funds, as well as the office of former Reconstruction Minister Hirasawa Katsuei.
                
It has already been revealed that the Nikai faction had failed to report about 100 million yen, or 688,000 dollars in kickbacks. The revenues kept by the offices of member lawmakers in the five years through 2022 are expected to amount to another 688,000 dollars. So the faction and offices of member lawmakers are believed to have underreported about 1.4 million dollars in total.
                
Excess revenues unreported by LDP&#039;s largest faction once led by late Prime Minister Abe Shinzo are suspected to be about 4.1 million dollars. Prosecutors are believed to be building a case against the chief accountants of the Abe and Nikai factions.
