A former senior White House official who heads the US liaison office with Taiwan has told its president-elect Lai Ching-te that the US government will continue its commitment to Taiwan affairs.
                
Laura Rosenberger, who is visiting Taiwan from Sunday, held talks with President Tsai Ing-wen and Lai separately on Monday.
                
Lai of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party won the presidential election in January and will launch his administration in May.
                
Rosenberger told Lai: &quot;The US commitment as you know is rock-solid, it is principled and it&#039;s bipartisan, and that&#039;s not changing.&quot;
                
She also said the United States will continue to deliver on its long-standing commitment to enable Taiwan to maintain a sufficient self-defense capacity.
                
In January, Rosenberger visited Taiwan immediately after the presidential election.
                
Observers say her visit this time, which comes ahead of the launch of Lai&#039;s administration, is apparently aimed at discussing policies on China.
                
Meanwhile, former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou of the opposition Kuomintang party is visiting China from Monday.
