A survey by an independent research organization in Russia shows that half of those polled support a ceasefire in Ukraine, while 41 percent are opposed. The Levada-Center released its findings on Tuesday, saying it conducted face-to-face interviews with more than 1,600 people in Russia between March 22 and 26. Fifty percent supported a 30-day truce between Russia and Ukraine. That's higher than the 41 percent of those that don't back a truce. When the former were asked why they support a truce, 29 percent said they wanted a speedy end to the war. Among the latter, 37 percent replied a truce would give Ukraine time to rearm. The polls come as Russian President Vladimir Putin in phone talks with US President Donald Trump on March 18 agreed to pause attacks on energy facilities for 30 days but did not agree to a full 30-day ceasefire. The Levada-Center has been designated as a "foreign agent" by President Vladimir Putin's administration but continues to conduct independent research and analysis, despite pressure from the Russian authorities.
