The International Atomic Energy Agency says external power has been restored to Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant after a month-long outage.
The announcement on Thursday comes one month after the Russian-occupied nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine lost all external power. Its last remaining power line was damaged by military activity about 1.5 kilometers away.
The IAEA said repair work began last weekend after the establishment of temporary ceasefire zones. It said the plant was "successfully re-connected to Ukraine's electrical grid today."
The outage was the 10th since the start of Russia's invasion. The recovery period lasted a month, the longest so far. During that time, the plant had to rely on emergency generators.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi described the power restoration as "a significant positive step."
He expressed deep concern and sounded the alarm over the repeated disruptions to the power supply caused by fighting.
Grossi said, "What was once virtually unimaginable -- a nuclear power plant regularly losing off-site power -- has unfortunately become a common occurrence during this devastating war."
Ukraine and Russia continue to blame each other for the latest power outage.
