Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday.



Their meeting came before officials from Ukraine and the United States are set to hold talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.



Ukraine's presidential office said Zelenskyy and the Crown Prince discussed Saudi Arabia's potential role as a mediator in the release of military and civilian prisoners, as well as prospects for strengthening cooperation in this area.



It also said they exchanged views on the formats of security guarantees for Ukraine.



After the meeting Zelenskyy said on social media, "I had a good meeting" with the Crown Prince.



Zelenskyy said, "We had a detailed discussion on the steps and conditions needed to end the war and secure a reliable and lasting peace." He added, "A significant part of the discussion was dedicated to the formats of security guarantees."



About the meeting of Ukrainian and US officials, Zelenskyy said his country's position on the talks will be "fully constructive."



Ukraine's delegation for the Jeddah talks includes the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak. Zelenskyy has not expressed a plan to attend the meeting.
