French President Emmanuel Macron says a large artificial intelligence data center will be built in France with investments from foreign companies. Macron was speaking to attendees at the AI Action Summit that opened in Paris on Monday. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US Vice President JD Vance and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing were among more than 1,000 officials from governments and companies around the world at the summit. Macron announced that 109 billion euros, or about 112 billion dollars, will be invested over the coming years for the French data center project. The French presidential office says the investments will be made by US IT giant Amazon and companies in Canada, Britain, and Japan. Macron said that France has nuclear power plants which can supply the huge amount of electricity needed to operate an AI data center. Macron, referring to US President Donald Trump's "drill, baby, drill" remarks on fossil fuel, said that in France, there is no need to drill. France's president apparently aims to change the status quo over the development of AI technologies, which the United States and China currently lead.
