Ukrainian media outlets report that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the peace plan put forth by the US includes a compromise over parts of the eastern Donetsk region. He stressed that his side may not accept the deal unless it is &quot;fair.&quot;
Local media quoted Zelenskyy as saying the US has proposed what it calls a &quot;free economic zone&quot; in the region. The plan would involve a withdrawal of Ukrainian troops and a guarantee that no Russian forces would enter the area.
However, Zelenskyy sees that as imposing a unilateral withdrawal on Ukraine. He stressed that, if one side pulls back, the other must do the same. He added that it is still unclear who would govern the territory.
Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov spoke about the issue with local media. He said the eastern Donbas region, including Donetsk, will remain under Russian control.
