South Korea's Constitutional Court has announced that it will hold the first preparatory hearing in President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment trial on Friday as planned.
The announcement comes following South Korean media reports that there may be delay in the preparatory hearing as Yoon has refused to accept the court's documents that requested him to attend the trial.
The court on Monday said that Yoon will be considered to have been served the necessary documents related to his trial.
But the court stopped short of explaining how it will respond if Yoon does not attend the hearing, saying that it will be up to the court's justices to decide.
Meanwhile, a joint investigation team of authorities, including police, sent its second summons for questioning to Yoon's office on Wednesday. But the team says it cannot confirm whether the office has received the summons documents.
South Korean media have quoted a lawyer close to Yoon as saying that the president has expressed readiness to prioritize procedures of the impeachment trial, instead of responding to the investigation over insurrection and abuse of power.
