The United States has decided on a foreign military sale to Taiwan of spare parts and related equipment for an estimated cost of 228 million dollars.
The US government on Monday announced the return, repair and reshipment of spare parts for aircraft and related equipment to Taiwan, and that it notified Congress of the sale.
The government said the proposed sale will improve Taiwan's ability to meet current and future threats.
Taiwan's foreign ministry says this is the 16th announcement of arms provision to Taiwan by the US administration under President Joe Biden.
The ministry welcomed the latest announcement and vowed that Taiwan will strengthen its defense capability, deepen its close security partnership with the US and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
The US move is seen as an effort to keep China in check, as Chinese military aircraft routinely cross the median line of the Taiwan Strait or its extension line.
The arms sale announcement is likely to draw protest from Beijing, which has been demanding the US end military support for Taiwan.
