Blinken conveys concern to China for alleged support of Russian defense industry NHK

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says he has conveyed deep concerns about China's alleged support for Russia's defense industry during his talks with Chinese leaders.

Blinken made the remarks at a news conference in Beijing on Friday after holding meetings with President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Blinken said while the United States seeks to deepen cooperation with China where their interests align, the US is "very clear eyed about the challenges posed by" China and their "competing visions for the future."

He suggested that the US might impose additional sanctions on China depending on how China responds to the concerns over its alleged support for Russia's defense industry amid Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Blinken said the two sides also discussed China's maritime activities in the South China Sea.

He said that while the US will continue to work to de-escalate tensions, its "defense commitments to the Philippines remain ironclad."

He said he also stressed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
