Israeli sources reportedly say Iran could be preparing an attack on their country in the coming days. The two sides have recently been engaged in a series of tit-for-tat strikes.

US news site Axios said on Thursday an attack could be conducted through pro-Iranian militias in neighboring Iraq.

The report quotes sources as saying intelligence suggests it would likely involve a "large number of drones and ballistic missiles."

The New York Times quotes Iranian officials as saying an attack would very likely happen after the US presidential election on November 5.

The move would be in response to an Israeli airstrike on Iranian military facilities last week.

Before that, Iran launched a large-scale missile attack against Israel on October 1.

The commander in chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Major General Hossein Salami, said in a speech on Thursday Israel will receive an "unimaginable response."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning of his own on the same day, saying his country has the ability to reach any part of Iran.
