Japanese firm to test hydrogen fuel truck on Tokyo road NHK

An innovative Japanese company aiming to get hydrogen-fuel engine technology on the road held a kick-off event for the project.

The firm will utilize a commercially available truck equipped with a diesel engine adapted for hydrogen fuel.

Company engineers say the shape of the pistons in the engine has been changed to enable hydrogen fuel use. They expect the test vehicle to achieve the same mileage as ordinary diesel trucks.

The vehicle will carry packages on a Tokyo public road till the end of January.

An Environment Ministry official says the technology will increase decarbonization options for trucks.
