Zelenskyy calls for support for EU membership bid at European Parliament NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has addressed the European Parliament and sought support for his country's bid to join the European Union.

Zelenskyy visited Belgium on Thursday, following his trip to Britain and France.

He thanked EU member countries for their support so far.

He said Ukraine is defending against "the most anti-European force of the modern world." He continued, "We are defending ourselves, we Ukrainians on the battlefield together with you."

He also called for support for Ukraine's bid to seek EU membership, stressing that the country is making reforms to join the bloc amid the Russian invasion of the country.

The president said, "We are approaching the European Union. Ukraine is going to be a member of the EU. Europe will always be and remain Europe as long as we are together."

Zelenskyy later attended a summit of EU leaders and called for more military aid.
