Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has expressed his commitment to bringing peace to Ukraine at an international conference in Switzerland. World leaders have gathered in Switzerland to discuss a peace plan advocated by Ukraine. Kishida said Japan has imposed strict sanctions on Russia and provided strong support for Ukraine since the invasion began two years ago. He said the support comes from a sense of crisis that what is happening there might occur in East Asia tomorrow. The prime minister said he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a new agreement on aid when they held talks on the sidelines of a Group of Seven summit in Italy. Kishida added that realizing lasting peace in Ukraine would be symbolic in terms of steering the world to harmony, not to division or confrontation. He said that Japan will continue its efforts to restore peace for the beautiful land through close cooperation with the international community. Specifically, Kishida said Japan will positively contribute to realizing atomic energy safety, and will continue to assist in landmine removal, electricity supply and other areas. He called on related countries to work together.
