The US State Department says China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Washington from Thursday for talks with Secretary of State Antony Blinken. A possible US-China summit in November is expected to be on the agenda. The State Department announced on Monday that Wang will pay a three-day visit. Senior US government officials say China's top diplomat is also due to meet White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. The officials say the East and South China seas and Taiwan will be among the topics of discussion. China is stepping up its maritime activities in those regions. The officials add that the conflict between Israel and Hamas as well as Russia's invasion of Ukraine will also be taken up, along with North Korea, which has repeatedly launched ballistic missiles. The State Department says the talks are "part of ongoing efforts to responsibly manage the US-China relationship and to maintain open channels of communication." A possible US-China summit is the focus of attention. The two sides are expected to discuss setting up a meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping in mid-November, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' meeting in San Francisco.
