'Presumed human remains' found in debris of Titanic tour submersible NHK

The US Coast Guard says what appear to be human remains have been found in debris from the Titan submersible in the North Atlantic.

US Coast Guard officials said on Wednesday that the "presumed human remains" were recovered from the wreckage of the submersible.

Rescue crews discovered debris from the sub on the ocean floor four days after it went missing on a dive to the wreck of the Titanic on June 18. The US Coast Guard said the five people on board were probably killed instantly in a "catastrophic" implosion.

Reuters and other media outlets reported that debris from the submersible was brought ashore and unloaded by crane at a port in Newfoundland in eastern Canada.

Footage shows a large piece of white metal and wreckage with cables exposed.

The US Coast Guard plans to work with investigative authorities in the relevant countries to analyze the debris in detail and determine the cause of the accident.
