Sources say Johnny & Associates, a Japanese talent agency at the center of a sex abuse scandal involving its late founder, is considering setting up a new company to manage its performers.

The sources say the agency is also making arrangements to change the name of its current office, which is associated with late founder Johnny Kitagawa. The current company under a different name would be dedicated to compensating abuse victims.

The agency is expected to hold a news conference on Monday afternoon to explain details, including measures to prevent a recurrence.

The agency held its first news conference on the scandal on September 7. It admitted that Johnny Kitagawa possibly abused hundreds of young male entertainers before he died in 2019. The agency apologized and offered to compensate the victims.

A number of Japanese companies are reviewing their use of the agency's entertainers in advertisements.

Some commercial TV stations have called on the agency to change its name.
