Japan logs more than 180,000 new COVID cases nationwide, 18,820 in Tokyo NHK

Japan's health ministry confirmed 184,375 new cases of the coronavirus nationwide on Thursday. It says 339 people infected with the virus died on the day in Japan.

A total of 545 people are reported to be in serious condition, up 15 from Wednesday.

The ministry also reported 18,820 new cases in Tokyo on Thursday, up 1,133 from a week ago. That marks the 17th consecutive day of week-on-week increases.

Forty-two people are reportedly in serious condition, down two from Wednesday.

The health ministry also reported 18 deaths in Tokyo.
