North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has expressed his intention to strengthen ties between his country and Russia in a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The two countries marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on October 12. North Korea's ruling Workers' Party newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported on Thursday that Kim exchanged congratulatory messages with Putin on this day.
In the message, Kim referred to last month's summit meeting with Putin, which was held for the first time in four years. Kim said he is "very satisfied" with the comprehensive exchange of opinions with Putin for the "multiform development" of their bilateral ties.
Putin indicated in his message that Russia will also implement the agreements reached at the summit.
He reportedly said that such implementation will contribute to further expanding bilateral cooperation to ensure security and stability in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.
North Korean media said last month that the Kim-Putin summit involved in-depth discussions on military affairs, with agreements reached on important issues and cooperation matters. Kim ordered the agreements to be implemented at a conference held after his return from Russia.
Observers are focusing their attention on the two countries' moves, particularly around military cooperation.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to visit North Korea this month.
North Korea has announced its plans for a third attempt to launch a military reconnaissance satellite later this month, following two previous failures.
