Military and opposition officials in Bangladesh have discussed forming an interim government after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country. Protestors stormed into Hasina's residence in the capital Dhaka on Monday after her resignation was reported, vandalizing the property and looting. Demonstrators celebrated her departure but some turned violent. They climbed up and then toppled a large statue of Hasina's father, state founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Local media say Hasina boarded a military helicopter on Monday and headed to India. Reports say she may flee to a third country. The ouster came after massive protests against government job quotas since last month. Demonstrators had urged Hasina to step down as fierce clashes with security forces ripped through the country. Media reports say at least 300 people are dead in the unrest. The country's president says an election will be held after the interim government is launched. The presidential office announced Tuesday that the parliament has been dissolved after talks between the military, opposition and protest organizers.
