A mudslide triggered by downpours in China's inland province of Hunan struck a mountainous region on Sunday, killing more than a dozen people. State-run China Central Television reported that the mudslide swept away a building and left 15 people dead and six others injured. In another location in the province about 80 meters of a river embankment collapsed. State-run Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday that more than 3,800 residents have been evacuated. No casualties have been reported so far. But aerial footage shows floodwater inundating houses over wide areas. Downpours are wreaking havoc across China. Earlier this month, torrential rain caused a highway bridge to partially collapse in Shaanxi Province, inland China. It has been confirmed that 15 people died in the incident. In neighboring Sichuan Province, landslides triggered by heavy rains have also claimed lives. Chinese leadership led by President Xi Jinping last week instructed authorities to always put the people's lives and safety first and to implement measures to limit damage from heavy rains.
