East Japan Railway Company says Shinkansen bullet train services on three lines between Tokyo and two cities, which have been suspended due to a power outage, will likely resume on Wednesday morning, except for two trains. Services had been suspended since earlier Tuesday between Tokyo and Sendai stations on the Tohoku line, as well as Tokyo and Takasaki stations on the Hokuriku and Joetsu lines. The company says that it will resume services on Wednesday except for a train that departs from Nasushiobara Station before 8 a.m. for Tokyo Station, and a train leaving Tokyo Station before 9 p.m. for Yamagata Station. It also says that other suspensions are possible depending on progress in the restoration work. JR East says the power outage occurred at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. It says workers found an overhead power cable dangling in an area between the stations of Ueno and Omiya. The company says investigations are ongoing. But it believes a running Shinkansen train made contact with the dangling cable and an abnormality was detected, consequently causing power outages over wide areas. Two workers were injured while repairing the damage and taken to a hospital. Both of them were conscious during the trip to the hospital. Company officials say they will check whether enough was done to prevent an electric shock. They say they deeply apologize for the inconvenience many customers experienced.
