Japan's main ruling Liberal Democratic Party, its coalition partner Komeito, and the opposition Democratic Party for the People have agreed to continue discussions on raising the minimum taxation threshold. The secretaries-general of the three parties met in the Diet building on Friday. LDP's Moriyama Hiroshi, Komeito's Nishida Makoto and DPFP's Shimba Kazuya exchanged opinions on how the parties should proceed with their discussions now that the ruling bloc has approved the reform guidelines for next year. The ruling parties plan to raise the threshold from the current level of 1.03 million yen, or about 6,570 dollars, to 1.23 million yen, or about 7,840 dollars. But the DPFP is calling for a further increase. The parties exchanged a fresh confirmation saying they will continue sincere discussions among the relevant parties to realize their aim of raising the minimum tax threshold to 1.78 million yen, or about 11,350 dollars. The three parties' policy chiefs and tax research panel chairs plan to meet on Tuesday to continue the discussion on the minimum taxation threshold.
