Police say a bear has been caught in a trap at a supermarket in northern Japan after entering the store two days ago. Bear attacks have become a social problem across Japan. The number of people who have suffered injuries or other damage caused by the animals hit a record high in the fiscal year that ended in March. On Saturday, the bear got into the supermarket in Akita City and attacked a 47-year-old employee, who sustained a head injury. A search of the sales floor using a drone the next day failed to find the animal. But the police later confirmed that the intruder was in the storage area. The bear is believed to be about one-meter long. A trap was set near a door connecting the sales floor and the storage area. On Monday morning, the police said the bear was found in the trap after the Akita prefectural government informed them its sensor had been activated. Prefectural officials say the animal will be removed from the supermarket later in the day.
