Japan's government has decided to draw up by mid-July measures to prevent sexual misconduct against minors. Performers who belonged to major Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates have recently alleged that they were sexually abused by its late founder and former president Johnny Kitagawa when they were underaged. The government on Tuesday convened the first meeting of relevant ministries and agencies on the matter. Children's Policy Minister Ogura Masanobu chaired the meeting. Officials from the Cabinet Office, the Justice Ministry, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry and the National Police Agency also took part. Ogura said sex crimes and sexual violence against minors must be eradicated, regardless of gender or what situation they are in. He said victims must be able to speak up, seek advice and receive proper support. Ogura instructed the officials to consider quickly and in detail which parts of existing policies need to be enhanced or supplemented, and present effective improvements. The officials plan to hear directly from victims and people who help them.
