People in Nepal are reeling from the deadly earthquake last week. The magnitude 6.4 temblor struck a mountainous area in western Nepal late Friday. UN officials are calling for delivery of aid supplies as soon as possible. Local authorities say more than 150 people are confirmed dead. Many brick houses with low quake resistance have been destroyed, but the overall extent of the damage is still unknown. In remote villages in the affected area, weeping relatives have been cremating loved ones. With tremors continuing around the epicenter, survivors have been spending nights outside in the cold. UNICEF officials say blankets, warm clothes and food are in immediate need. On top of support from local authorities and the UN, some neighboring countries, including India, are sending humanitarian aid. Transports of the Indian Air Force arrived at a western airport on Sunday carrying blankets and sleeping bags. The challenge now is how to bring these items to the damaged sites since many are in remote areas only accessible by foot.
