A nonpartisan group of Japanese lawmakers plans to hold a general meeting this week with a South Korean parliamentarians&#039; group. The meetings have been suspended for three years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
                
About 20 members of the Japan-South Korea parliamentarians&#039; union are set to begin a three-day visit to Seoul on Wednesday.
                
The visiting members will include the ruling Liberal Democratic Party&#039;s Nukaga Fukushiro, a former finance minister who heads the union, as well as former education minister Nakagawa Masaharu of the Constitutional Democratic Party.
                
The Japanese and South Korean groups are expected to adopt a joint statement calling for the governments of both countries to communicate more closely.
                
Arrangements are underway for senior members of the Japanese lawmakers&#039; group to meet South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol.
                
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the lawmakers&#039; groups. The members hope to pave the way for improving bilateral ties through their diplomacy, despite wartime labor and other issues.
