New Zealand's new prime minister Chirstopher Luxon has shared his agenda for his first 100 days in office. It includes rolling back a law by the previous administration that would eventually ban smoking completely. Luxon said on Wednesday that his "100 Day Action Plan" is ambitious but "necessary in order to bring about the relief to New Zealanders who have been doing it tough for way too long." The plan says the government will repeal a ban on selling tobacco products to anyone born in 2009 or later. It was the first such law in the world. Local media report that critics are saying that the move would increase tax revenue at the cost of public health. Another aim outlined in the plan is to ban the use of mobile phones in schools and require primary and intermediate schools to teach reading, writing and mathematics for one hour per day. The plan also calls for the Maori Health Authority to be disestablished. Luxon's government portrays this as a way to treat all citizens equally, but critics say it discriminates against indigenous people.
