The mother of a Japanese girl who North Korea kidnapped has renewed her call for Japan's government to hold a summit with Pyongyang to bring back all Japanese nationals abducted by the North. Yokota Sakie held a news conference on Tuesday. Her daughter Megumi was taken to North Korea from Niigata City on the Sea of Japan coast on November 15, 1977. She was 13 years old. Yokota said she has been frustrated and exhausted for decades because no progress has been made on the issue of Japanese nationals who were abducted. She also said she no longer has the strength she used to. The 87-year-old said the first thing she does every morning is to ask her missing daughter if she is okay. She added that she thinks about Megumi every day, and keeps going because her daughter must be waiting to be rescued. Yokota criticized the government for taking little action although it calls the issue its top priority. She urged the government to hold a summit with North Korea to tell its leader Kim Jong Un that no one in the world tolerates its abductions of foreign citizens. Yokota said Kim must be a loving father for his daughter. She said she wants him to understand that the abductees' families have the same affection for their loved ones and are waiting for their return.
