The United States on Wednesday vetoed a UN Security Council resolution that urged "humanitarian pauses" in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The resolution, sponsored by Brazil, called for pauses in the conflict to enable the delivery of humanitarian assistance access to Gaza. It also urged Israel to retract its evacuation notice for residents in northern Gaza.
