Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is visiting the Philippines for talks with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday. The two leaders are expected to discuss the importance of order based on international law.

Zelenskyy left Singapore after attending an Asian security conference known as the Shangri-La Dialogue where he had talks with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin among others.

In Singapore, he called on nations to participate in a peace summit to be held in Switzerland in mid-June in an effort to realize a peace plan he advocates to end the war in Ukraine.

Philippines government officials say the Ukrainian president arrived in the capital, Manila, on Sunday night and will meet with Marcos on Monday morning.

Zelenskyy is expected to ask Marcos to attend the upcoming peace summit as Russia's invasion of Ukraine drags on.

The Philippines is facing increasingly coercive actions from China in the South China Sea where both countries claim sovereignty.

Zelenskyy apparently hopes he and Marcos will agree on shared principles such as the importance of order based on international law and opposition to any violation of sovereignty.
