US media outlet CNBC has reported that Twitter owner Elon Musk is actively looking for a new CEO of the social media platform.
Musk asked Twitter users if he should step down as head of the company. Over 57 percent of those who responded were in favor of his resignation.
Musk said he would abide by the results of the poll, but he remains silent.
CNBC on Tuesday quoted sources as saying Musk was looking for a new CEO even before the poll was made, and the search continues.
Musk tweeted on Sunday, "No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor."
Last year, Musk conducted a Twitter poll to ask his followers if he should sell his shares in car maker Tesla to pay taxes. He pushed ahead with the sales after a majority supported the idea, but it was later found that his plan to sell had already been in progress when the poll was posted.
Boston College Law School Professor Brian Quinn says Musk is only using Twitter to justify what he has already decided.
