Hamas: No new conditions for Gaza negotiations NHK

Hamas has denied a media report that it added new conditions for a ceasefire and hostage-release deal. The Islamic group accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of causing the negotiations to stall.

The US and mediators said they would show a new proposal to Israel and Hamas in the coming days. But the Washington Post on Saturday quoted relevant officials as saying the US and the mediators were reassessing their proposal as Hamas added new conditions.

In response, the Islamic group released a video statement that says it has not presented any additional conditions. It said it is Netanyahu who is seeking new conditions.

Israeli media reported on Sunday that senior government officials indicated that a new approach would be necessary for the negotiations as Netanyahu insists that the country will continue stationing troops in the southern Gaza Strip after a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, local media said on Monday that attacks by the Israeli military killed and wounded a number of people in Gaza.

Syria's state-run news agency quoted military and other officials as saying Israel carried out airstrikes on military facilities in central Syria on Sunday night, killing at least 16 and wounding more than 30.

Israel has so far shown no reaction to the report. The country has conducted a number of strikes in Syria, targeting what it says were military facilities linked to Iran. The situation between Israel and Iran is increasingly volatile.
