Japan's top government spokesperson says the country will arrange a chartered flight to evacuate Japanese from Israel amid intensifying conflict with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The United States and other countries are also organizing repatriation schemes for their citizens in response to the heightened tensions. Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu told reporters on Friday that the Japanese government will arrange a chartered flight that leaves the Israeli city of Tel Aviv on Saturday and heads to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Noting that the situation in Israel is very fluid, Matsuno said the government will urge people who wish to leave to do so as soon as possible. He noted that the government will continue to make utmost efforts to secure the safety of Japanese nationals, in cooperation with relevant countries and organizations. Regarding the possibility of sending a Self-Defense Force aircraft, Matsuno said the government will take appropriate measures while monitoring developments in the situation.
