Event in Thailand lures tourists to Japan NHK

Travelers from Thailand have been slowly returning to Japan since the country reopened its borders in October.
Japanese tourism officials are hoping to keep the momentum going by bringing back a promotional event in Bangkok.

The Japan National Tourism Organization opened the event on Friday for the first time in three years. Over 80 groups including Japanese municipalities and travel agencies are taking part.

Japan has always been a favorite spot for Thais. Demand for travel to the country has been growing due to a weaker yen. Last month, over 80,000 Thais traveled to Japan, more than any other destination.

A woman who joined the event said, "I used to go to Japan every year. I hope to start doing that again."
Doi Kei, Executive Director for Bangkok Office of Japan National Tourism Organization, said, "Many Thai travelers are repeat visitors. We hope to show them more of what Japan has to offer, including its rural areas, so that they will keep coming back again and again."

The event will continue through Sunday.
