Teen trespasses into school in Saitama Pref., injures teacher NHK

A teenager trespassed into a junior high school in Toda City, Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, early Wednesday afternoon and injured a male teacher.

Local police say they were notified by the school at about 12:30 p.m. that a young man carrying a knife had entered the school and a teacher was injured.

Students were safely evacuated but the teacher in his 60s sustained cuts while trying to capture the intruder along with other teachers. The teen allegedly slashed the teacher several times on his upper body. Other details of the teacher's condition are not known but he is reportedly conscious.

The police arrested the 17-year-old high school student on suspicion of attempted murder.

The suspect has allegedly admitted to injuring the teacher and told police he wanted to kill anyone he could.

Police say the suspect is also hinting at being involved in cases in which dismembered cat bodies were found one after another in the neighboring city of Saitama last month.
