Sudan's capital faces continued shelling as some nations evacuate their citizens NHK

Local media in Sudan said the capital Khartoum continued to echo with sounds of shelling on Sunday even after warring factions announced a three-day truce.
Some nations have been evacuating their citizens from Sudan.

Heavy fighting erupted between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group earlier this month. Both sides said on Friday that they agreed to the ceasefire.

The United States says government personnel and their families were evacuated from its embassy in Sudan's capital Khartoum on Sunday.

Pentagon and State Department officials say US military aircraft, including three transport helicopters, flew from Djibouti to Khartoum via Ethiopia.

They say nearly100 people were evacuated, including a small number of people of other nationalities.
US President Joe Biden thanked Djibouti, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia for helping with the operation.

China has vowed to protect hundreds of its nationals in Sudan.

China's state-run television quoted the head of the Foreign Ministry's consular affairs department as saying more than 1,500 Chinese nationals are in the country.

A spokesperson for the Sudanese military says a French embassy convoy was attacked by the Rapid Support Forces on Sunday, and one person was injured.

The RSF claims the attack was carried out by the Sudanese military.

The RSF said on social media that French diplomats and others were attacked by military aircraft while evacuating, and one French national was injured.
