Flight training for Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets is due to start next month with support from 11 countries, mainly from Europe.
Ukrainian defense minister Oleksii Reznikov held talks with his counterparts from the 11 nations, including Denmark and the Netherlands, at a NATO summit meeting in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, on Tuesday.
They agreed that Ukraine will receive support for the training using the fighter jets.
Denmark's defense ministry and others say the training begins in Denmark in August. Romania is also expected to host training at a later date.
Those who attend the training will be pilots from the Ukrainian military, engineers and other support personnel. The pilots will take exams to be screened before receiving language lessons and flight training.
Ukraine has been asking its Western allies for F-16s to help gain air supremacy in its fight against Russia's invasion.
Reznikov tweeted his gratitude, saying, "F-16s will protect Ukraine's skies and NATO's Eastern Flank. The Ukrainian Air Force is prepared to master them as quickly as possible."
Aircraft to be used for training will be provided by Denmark and the Netherlands. Both countries have shown their intent to donate the jets to Ukrainians in the future.
